Remember Your Family in Church History at RootsTech 2024

As the “world’s largest genealogy conference and celebration of family,” RootsTech 2024 invites everyone across the globe to Remember—the theme of this year’s conference. RootsTech 2024 will take place February 29March 2 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Whether you plan to attend in person or participate online, you’ll learn from top genealogists, family history enthusiasts, and historians alike.

The Church History Library has taken part in RootsTech for nearly as long as the conference has existed, as an exhibitor, a sponsor, and a presenter.

In 2024, we will be back with an interactive booth in the Expo Hall, where you can see personalized demos of how to find your ancestors in Church history. Our research consultants will introduce you to powerful research tools, like the Church History Catalog and the Biographical Database, to help you explore your connections to the history of the Church.

Make sure to stop by, and don’t forget to spin the wagon wheel for your chance to win great prizes.

Three 2024 Presentations to Help You Find Your Family in Church History

In addition, the Church History Library will offer three exciting sessions during this year’s conference.

“Discover Your Family in Latter-day Saint History”
Presented by Jeff Haddon

Many family trees intersect with the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church History Library offers a wealth of information in its digitized collections that can help genealogists discover stories, places, life context, and connections to FANs (friends, associates, and neighbors). This session will provide an overview of what’s new in the library’s collections, resources to assist your research, and personalized help that is available to family historians of all types.

“Finding Ancestors in Latter-day Saint Ward and Branch Records”
Presented by Lyn Rasmussen

The ward and branch records of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are a valuable resource for discovering more about your ancestors’ lives. The Church History Library houses a vast collection of ward, stake, and membership records, which may reveal baptism dates, parents’ names, place of birth, family units, and residence. Learn how to access and search in these interesting and helpful collections made digitally available at the Church History Library.

“Dour Faces, Daguerreotypes, and Polaroids: Finding Photographs in the Church History Library Collections”
Presented by Jeff Thompson

The Church History Library holds more than 15,000 photo collections, many of which are already digitized. This session will explain how to find and access photographs in the Church History Library to illustrate and enhance family histories, biographies, and local histories.

We look forward to seeing you at this year’s conference!
