Alanson Colby
Birth date confirmed by the record of his Patriarchal Blessing given by Hyrum Smith at Nauvoo, Illinois on 21 February 1842 (presumably, Alanson supplied this date himself.) According the the book California Gold, which cites information derived from the journal of Apostle Charles C. Rich, Alanson Colby paid tithing in the California gold fields in 1850. At the time of the 1850 Utah census, which was taken early in 1851, Alanson and his wife Fanny were living in Davis County, Utah with an infant daughter named Naomi. In 1855, Alanson paid tithing and served in the Utah Territorial Militia at Fillmore, Millard County. Alanson was one of the presidents of the 8th Quorum of Seventy.
The letter to the editor in the Deseret News, written just a year after his death by his wife and sister, gives his death date.
