Alice Hardman
Alice was a widow who arrived in Salt Lake by 1850. According to FamilySearch, she married William Clayton after arriving in Salt Lake City and was rebaptized 9 February 1851. She married Austin Sturgess in 1844 in Nauvoo, and he died before 1850. The rebaptism record shows her name as "Alice Clayton," so we know that she was married to William before that date. Her name is listed as "Alice Sturgess" on the 1850 Utah Census, which was taken in the Spring of 1851.
She sailed to America in 1842 on the ship John Cummins with her mother, who died in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844.
The inscription on her grave marker shows her name as "Alice H. Clayton."
