Evidence from land and church and newspaper records proves he traveled to Utah in 1848 with his mother and step-father, Elizabeth and John Gray.  

He was rebaptized in Salt Lake City on 16 October 1848.  The Salt Lake Stake Record of Members shows his surname as "McWardrop."  FamilySearch shows his father's surname as "Wardrop."

He sailed to America in 1844 on the ship Norfolk with his mother.  The ship manifest and the New Orleans, Passenger List both show their surname as "Wardrop."  Evidence from land and church records proves the Gray/Wardrobe family traveled to Utah in 1848.  Further research is needed to determine the name of the pioneer company with which they traveled.

A copy of his obituary can be found on Find a Grave with his gravestone in Idaho.  It states that he came to America in 1844, and to Utah in 1848 with his mother.  This record shows his surname as "Wardrobe."

His birth and death dates are confirmed by his death certificate, which show his surname as "Wardrobe."

The 1870 Nevada census lists his name as "A. Wardrobe."
