Ane Kjersten Mortensen (1837 - 1898) Profile

Ane Kjersten Mortensen

Christine crossed the Atlantic on the ship James Nesmith with her parents (Diderick and Maren) and her siblings in 1855. On the ship manifest she is listed as Anna K. Mortensen.  She married Captain Benjamin L. Clapp not long after their arrival in Salt Lake City but at the time of her death her surname was Neilsen (she had married Lars Bertelsen Neilsen.)

Diderick emigrated with his wife, Maren, and children: Bodil, Dorothea, Ann Kjerstine, Morten, Inger, Johanne, Jens, Else, and Ane Maria. They came on the ship, James Nesmith in 1855. The following members of this family came on the Clapp train: Bodil, Dorthea, Ann, Morten, and Emma.

The inscription on her gravestone shows her name as "Christine Neilson," and it confirms the years of her birth and death.

Christine was rebaptized in Salt Lake City on 10 March 1857.
