William Dearborn Brown, his wife, and family joined up with the Walling Company. However, they were not listed in the (Emigration List for Spring, 1860) company roster. William Dearborn's account of the journey mentions his wife and family. Also, The obituaries of Amasa David Brown, state that Amasa, William Dearborn Brown, and Harriet Francis Hatch Brown came to Utah together in 1860.

It is not clear at this time if Benjamin stayed with the Walling Company until it reached Utah or if he finished the journey with another company. An entry from William Dearborn Brown's (Benjamin's father) account of the journey states, "I went and saw Mr Lewis[.] he paid me for what I had cut then wanted I should let my boy stay and work for him[.] so I left him untill I wrote for him[.]" The entry most likely refers to Benjamin as he would have been about 18 years old at the time, and his next closest brother in age (George Washington) would have been 10 years old at the time.

More research is needed to confirm Benjamin's date of birth and identify his date of death. Dates listed reflect family tradition from Family Tree at FamilySearch.org.
