The obituary of James states that he came to Utah with his parents when he was 2 years old, which would be about 1854. Lauretta was born in Utah in April 1855, which was prior to the arrival of that season's emigration.  Further research is needed to confirm the year of the family's arrival in Utah and the name of the pioneer company with which they traveled. 

Calvin is seen again on the plains in 1862 as a teamster for Homer Duncan's 1862 out-and-back company.
