Catherine crossed the Atlantic aboard the ship William Tapscott in 1862 as a "spinster." That same year she borrowed money from the Perpetual Emigrating Fund and in December she married William Thorne at Salt Lake City. In some sources her married surname is spelled without the "e." Additional research is needed to identify the name of the pioneer company with which she crossed the plains.
