The Green brothers first came to Utah between 1852 and 1855. They likely came in 1852, the year they sailed to America. But the first documentation to place them in Utah is the 1856 Utah census, which was taken in February 1856, before the arrival of that season's emigration. Charles and Samuel may have traveled in the 1853 Moses Clawson Company but further research is need to confirm that.

After settling in Utah, Charles participated as a "down-and-back" teamster in three other wagon trains: the John R. Murdock Company (1862), the Samuel D. White Company (1863), and the William Henry Chipman Company (1866.)
