In Far West "The High Council in Zion met according to adjournment. The following Elders were united in the ministry by pairs by the council: . . . The council also voted that David W. Patten, Geo. M. Hinkle, Elisha H. Groyes (this is Groves on the previous day's record.), Charles W. Patten receive a recommend from the council and choose partners for themselves to journey in the ministry." further "Referring to the Elders sent out to preach, he (Joseph Smith) remarks: 'About twenty Elders were sent forth to preach the Gospel to the world, but not in Jackson or Clay counties, or their vicinity.'"

Elder Solomon Hancock accompanied by Charles W. Patten left Clay Co., Missouri for Ohio. They went to Lawrence Co., Illinois. They baptized 3. They continued in Edwards Co., Illinois. They baptized 25 and ordained 2 Elders, 1 Priest, 1 Teach and 1 Deacon. They left Edwards Co. 3 April 1835 and he went to Kirtland, Ohio arriving April 25th 1835. See JH 12 Dec 1835.
