In Far West "The High Council in Zion met according to adjournment. The following Elders were united in the ministry by pairs by the council: . . . The council also voted that David W. Patten, Geo. M. Hinkle, Elisha H. Groyes (this is Groves on the previous day's record.), Charles W. Patten receive a recommend from the council and choose partners for themselves to journey in the ministry." further "Referring to the Elders sent out to preach, he (Joseph Smith) remarks: 'About twenty Elders were sent forth to preach the Gospel to the world, but not in Jackson or Clay counties, or their vicinity.'"

They baptized 25 and ordained 2 Elders, 1 Priest, 1 Teach and 1 Deacon. They left Edwards Co. 3 April 1835 and he went to Kirtland, Ohio arriving April 25th 1835. See JH 12 Dec 1835.

"Monday, August 3 Under this date Elders Charles W. Patten and Geo. P. Dykes wrote from Edwards county, Illinois, to the effect, that they had baptized 45 in that county."
