Evidence from emigration and church (Perpetual Emigrating Fund) records proves he traveled to Utah in 1863. He traveled with his mother, Trena Christensen. His last name is also spelled "Ayling" in different sources and he may have used the surname "Christensen" at early times in his life, e.g., ship passenger list. His birth is recorded in the Lerbjerg parish register in Randers county, Denmark.
