John and Clarissa Loomis Lyman traveled to the Salt Lake Valley in 1847 with the Daniel Spencer/Perrigrine Sessions Company, according to Jesse Nathaniel’s journal. They traveled with their two children and their families:
Their daughter Caroline Clara with her husband, Thomas Callister, and his second wife and daughter, Helen Marr Clark and Helen Marr;
And their son John Lyman Smith and his wife Augusta Bowen Cleveland.
Their eldest son, George Albert Smith, had traveled prior to the rest of the family with the Brigham Young Pioneer Company in 1847. According to Jesse Nathaniel Smith’s journal, the rest of the Smith family met George Albert Smith traveling east with a group including Brigham Young, Parley P. Pratt, and Willard Richards. They camped one day together and then parted ways and resumed their separate journeys.
