Daniel’s obituary states that he came to Utah in 1862,

His name appears of Militia records on 9 November 1853 and 4 July 1857.The Dougherty family came to Utah between 1852 and 1855.  Son William was born in New Jersey in March 1852.  The first documentation to place them in Utah are Salt Lake 12th Ward records in 1855.  Further research is needed to confirm the year of their travel and the name of the pioneer company they traveled with.

The Utah State History Cemeteries and Burials database shows their names as follows:  "Dark Dockaday" (likely misread from the original "Danl" Dougherty), Mary Dougherty, and "William Dougherty."  The family was buried together in the Salt Lake City cemetery, on B5 13E, and in plots 1E, 3E, and 4E.  No gravestone is shown on the Find a Grave website.

His obituary confirs his death date and place of death as Salt Lake City, Utah Territory.

In some sources their surname is listed as "Daugherty."
