Daniel Newell Drake
Daniel and his family started west from the Missouri River in July 1846 led by Bishop George Miller; but Brigham Young advised this company to not proceed that year so Daniel and his family (along with other pioneers), spent the winter with Ponca Indians on the Niobra River, a western tributary of the Missouri. It was here that Daniel's wife, Cynthia Parker Johnson Drake, died. In 1848 Daniel traveled to the Salt Lake Valley with his daughter Lucy. His other daughter, Cynthia Remina, traveled with an aunt in Jacob Croft Company (1856).
