Daniel Newell Drake

Daniel and his family started west from the Missouri River in July 1846 led by Bishop George Miller; but Brigham Young advised this company to not proceed that year so Daniel and his family (along with other pioneers), spent the winter with Ponca Indians on the Niobra River, a western tributary of the Missouri.  It was here that Daniel's wife, Cynthia Parker Johnson Drake, died.  In 1848 Daniel traveled to the Salt Lake Valley with his daughter Lucy.
