He was likely in the 1850 Aaron Johnson Company, though further research is needed to verify that. Several years later, he also participated in the rescue effort to assist members of the Church stranded on the plains of Wyoming the winter of 1856.

His death certificate gives a death date of 31 December 1913. However, his obituary, published in February 1916, gives the death date as 31 December 1915.
