His mother's recollections in her journal of him dying on 25 August are mistaken. She mentioned that he died at Pole Creek which was hundreds of miles east of Salt Lake City. The 25 August death date couldn't be correct because the company arrived in Salt Lake on 26 August. She may be recalling the correct day, but the wrong month. If so, he may have died on 25 July.
