Elizabeth Skellington
The McCowan family crossed the Atlantic on the ship Camillus in 1853. Elizabeth's husband, Robert, did not emigrate with him. It appears that he emigrated at an earlier date. He died at St. Louis but she (according to the obituary of a son--Joseph) crossed the plains with three children this same year. She remarried in January 1855 (to Robert Chapman). A secondary source says she was in the John Brown Company but further research is needed to confirm this.
