Daughter of Ernest Wilhelm Bluemel, but she traveled with her grandmother, Maria Rosina Karge Bluemel, and sister Emma Bertha Bluemel. In the records of the Perpetual Emigrating Company she is listed as "Bertha."  She arrived in New York City via the ship Teutonia​ on 8 March 1867.
