Emma Smith Ashworth

Evidence from emigration, genealogical, and newspaper records proves that the Ashworth family traveled to Utah in 1854. Benjamin Ashworth sailed to America in 1849 on the ship Benjamin Ware, and his wife and children followed in 1850 on the ship Argo. It is not known if he came on to Utah in 1849 or remained in the East and brought his family to Utah in 1854. His obituary states that he came to Utah in 1849. The obituary of the daughter Martha Elizabeth stated that they crossed the plains in 1854. Benjamin Erastus Ashworth was born en route. Further research is needed to determine the name of the company they traveled with.

The inscription on her gravestone shows her name as "Emma S. Hill."
