Esther crossed the Atlantic with her parents, John and Elizabeth Booth, on the ship Henry Ware in 1849.  In the 1850 federal census Esther was living in a household with John and Sarah Needham, Ann Booth and Edwin Booth in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.

She crossed the plains with the Hiram Dayton Family in 1851 and was re-baptized at Salt Lake City on 20 October of the same year.  According to the files of the Sons of Utah Pioneers she married William Bell on 17 December 1851.  They moved to San Bernardino, California in 1856 but returned to Utah in 1858.  In 1860 they were living on Cache County.  At the time of the 1870 census they were at Montpelier, Rich County.

Further research is needed to determine the name of the company with which she crossed the plains
