Ezekiel Bates

The obituary of Susan Rebecca Bates Wright states that she came to Utah with Brigham Young's company. However, the Deuel and Bates families were still in Iowa when Jacob Deuel was born to her mother, Roxana, 10 September 1848. The 1848 Brigham Young Company arrived in Salt Lake City the 20th-24th of September 1848, so the families were not with him. The first documentation to place them in Utah is the 1850 Utah Census, which was taken in the Spring of 1851, which proves that they came to Utah in 1849 or 1850. Further research is needed to confirm their year of travel and the name of the company they traveled with.

The inscription on his gravestone confirms his birth and death dates and shows his name as "Ezkiel Bates.
