Francis Daniel Clift
He crossed the Atlantic on the ship George W. Bourne in 1851; his occupation was given as "Rule Maker." He worked as a clerk at William Nixon's store in St. Louis before continuing on the Utah. On the original roster of the Spencer Company he is "Daniel Clifft;" but he is listed as "Daniel Clift" on both the 1856 Utah Territorial census and on the 1860 federal census. At the time of both these enumerations he was living in the Salt Lake City 12th Ward with his wife "Virtue." In 1853 he was ordained a Seventy. Tullidge and Daniel's obituary are mistaken when they say he crossed the plains with the Walker brothers, Henry W. Lawrence and John Clark.
