George Alexander Swan, Sr.
George arrived in New York 23 June 1864 via the ship The General McClellan. His wife (Agnes MacDonald Swan) and children traveled to the United States the year prior. His obituary infers that they waited in the east until he arrived and then all traveled over the plains in 1864. However, PEF records in his wife's name indicate otherwise. He traveled alone, possibly hiring out as a teamster for one of the companies. Further research is needed to determine which company he was with.
