George Briggs Smith (1824 - 1877) Profile

George Briggs Smith

Census records prove that George Briggs Smith was in Utah by 1850.  In 1857 he was called on a church mission to the United States and became one of the "Handcart Missionaries."  In 1860 his wife, Elizabeth wrote a letter to Brigham Young inquiring about her husband's whereabouts.

Additional research is needed to identify the year he arrived in Utah and the name of the pioneer company with which he crossed the plains.

His death date is confirmed by the inscription on his gravestone in New York, USA.
