George sailed to America in 1863 on the ship Amazon. 

In the 1841 England census George was reportedly ten years old suggesting a birth year of 1831.  In the 1900 Utah census July 1831 appears as his birth date while 1863 is given as his immigration year.  Evidence from emigration, Church ordinance and Perpetual Emigrating Fund records proves he traveled to Utah in 1863.  (He was re-baptized at Coalville Utah on 25 December 1863.)  Although there is no extant roster for the McArthur company, Edgel was alive at and after the publication of Pioneers and Prominent Men of Utah and may have contributed that information to this publication.
