George Washington Sevey
At age 16, George was a 49er heading for the California Gold fields. He became ill and was left in Salt Lake City to recuperate. He remained in the area, joined the Church in Spanish Fork and in the winter of 1856, he volunteered to help with the rescue effort to assist emigrants stranded on the plains of Wyoming. In some sources his surname is spelled "Sevy."
