Missionary Camp, East Kanyon Creek, 30 Miles from Great Salt Lake City May 9. 1855. Editor of News, Sir, We take this opportunity of making a short report of our prospects. We left Great Salt Lake City, on Monday the seventh inst at 4 o’clock, drove about 2 miles up Emigration Kanyon, and camped for the night. A number of brethren from the city in company. Tuesday 8th. At ½ past 7 on the move; – drove over the little mountain on the new route, through Killien’s cut off, and camped at the foot of the big mountain at 11 oclock A.M. At ½ past 1 o clock had a heavy hail storm of 15 minutes duration, with cold wind and some rain. The company all being present at 15 minutes past 5. proceeded to organize by electing Hector C. Haight Captain. Henry N. Miller. Captain of the Guard, Robert C Petty, Chaplain and John L. Smith Clerk of Company. Wednesday May 9. The company consisting of: Missionaries for England H. C Haight, Daniel Davis, John L. Smith, Robert F. Neslen, John Kay, David A Curtis. For Ireland John Scott. For Scotland William Muir. Cherokee Mission. Henry W. Miller, William Richie. Robert C. Petty, Washington F. Cook, and John A Richards. For Texas. William C. Moodie, James Cooper. Going to the States on businiz of their own. Stephen B Rose, wife and 3 children, Warren G. Childs, wife and child, Charles Whitehouse. Daniel Page. and L.L. Bedell. M.D. 10 men 2 women &amp; 4 children. 8 wagons. 20 horses. 6 mules. Wednesday May 9. Prayers at 6 A.M. all on the move at ¼ past 7 top of big mountan at 1/2 past 9. arrived at this camp at ¼ past 2. Grass good. Weather cloudy. but warm and pleasant, All is good spirits. Bro. Leo Hawkins has accompanied us thus far. He returns in the morning. any further particulars you may wish he will gladly communicate. (2) Respectfully Yours John L. Tuesday, June 1 [1858] We finished our preparations and our 4 wagons began their trip. We met up with some who had left before us on our second day out so there were 12 wagons in all.



Wednesday, June 2 There was heavy rain last night so travel went slowly. We camped at Elkhorn. 14 miles today.



Thursday, June 3 We drove along the Platte River, past an Indian town and another town. An Indian came and ate dinner with us. 20 miles.



Friday, June 4 Along the Platte River and across a stream that was clear full of water. 25 miles.



Saturday, June 5 Across two bodies of water, so we had a lot of work. We camped outside of Columbus Town. 18 miles.



Sunday, June 6 We met a group coming from Zion. They gave us information and said things should go fairly well. They said some were being moved out of Zion. There were 6 brethren and a Major Ken, who had been sent to Utah from Washington to investigate conditions there. He seemed to be a liberal man. We camped and the members held an evening meeting in the field. 17 miles.



Monday, June 7 Had a lot of work crossing the Platte River. But, luckily, everything went well. We finished and rested.



Tuesday, June 8 We continued on our journey. The Company was organized. Eldridge [Horace S. Eldredge] was made Captain and Joseph Y[o]ung his aide, and Haight is Chaplain. There are 37 men, 13 wagons, 29 horses, and 17 mules—46 in all went from the river and up the bank to the left. 20 miles today.



Wednesday, June 9 We crossed a lot of water, but it went well. 26 miles.



Thursday, June 10 We saw a lot of animals today. Everything went well. 26 miles.



Friday, June 11 We got to the Waad [Wood] River about 10:00 A.M. The bridge was gone, so we made a new one. We ate lunch and went over by 3:00 P.M. 28 miles.



Saturday, June 12 31 miles.



Sunday, June 13 We had beautiful weather and a smooth day traveling. 44 miles.



Monday, June 14 Very dry weather. 25 miles.



Tuesday, June 15 We met several Indians and gave them some bread. We saw a large company on the other side of the river. They had many animals and looked ready to assemble. 28 miles.



Wednesday, June 16 We met two Indian tribes. 30 miles.



Thursday, June 17 We saw a train traveling toward the States on the other side of the river. 30 miles.



Friday, June 18 We saw a large and a small company heading toward the States. We also passed a large Indian camp. They had many horses and colts. 35 miles.



Saturday, June 19 We saw two large trains heading toward the States. 35 miles.



Sunday, June 20 20 miles.



Monday, June 21 We passed the wagons traveling back to the states. 32 miles.



Tuesday, June 22 We passed Fort Laramie this afternoon and got into a very hilly region. 35 miles.



Wednesday, June 23 26 miles.



Thursday, June 24 30 miles.



Friday, June 25 28 miles.



Saturday, June 26 In the morning we passed Deer Creek. There was a settlement of Mountain Men on the other side of the river. They came over and we traded them buffalo hides for provisions. 26 miles.



Sunday, June 27 In the morning we came to another settlement of mountain men and traded for some more provisions. There were also a few Indians. There was a bridge over the Platte River and the North and South trails joined. Two wagons left the company. In the afternoon we passed another settlement. In the night the two wagons camped along side of us. 24 miles.



Monday, June 28 We left the Platte River and found the trail quite sandy. We met two wagons coming from Salt Lake. 32 miles.



Tuesday, June 29 In the morning we drove past a settlement that looked very peaceful. We came to the Devil’s Peak, where there was a settlement. We passed about 20 wagons which were trying to get provisions. There was a large cliff along the right side of the wagon. 34 miles.



Wednesday, June 30 In the morning we passed a small company which had a great number of livestock. But I don’t know where they were going. 34 miles.



Thursday, July 1 Very rocky and hilly area. Loud thunder and rain in the evening. But it let up in the night. 28 miles.



Friday, July 2 Good weather. We had lunch near Sweet Water. I had been very sick with fever and have laid in the wagon for about 14 days. But I am beginning to get my strength back and feel better. Thunder and rain in the afternoon. We drove until 1:00 A.M. and then camped alongside a little creek. 34 miles.



Saturday, July 3 Very sandy trail. We had lunch at Little Sandy, where there was good graas [grass]. We veered to the left and finally camped at Big Sandy, having crossed them both. The grass for the horses here was terrible. 24 miles.



Sunday, July 4 We drove on this morning. At lunchtime we encountered a wagon train of apostates. There were about 16 wagons. We crossed the water. Later in the day we met another 2 wagons and several men who were laden with provisions. In the late afternoon we came to Green River. There were many tents and people there. We crossed the river on a ferry—it cost $6.00 for 4 people. The traveling went very well today. 24 miles.



Monday, July 5 Early in the morning a messenger from the army came by with some information about the soldiers going into Salt Lake. Later in the day, when we came to Hensfork [Ham’s Fork] River, there were about 10 soldiers who stood watach at a bridge. They didn’t say anything to us except that we should be on careful guard for Mormons. They said Johnson had gone into Salt Lake and that we should go straight to him and get 300 to 400 men to protect us from the Mormons. They thought we were going on to Karlefornien [California]. We met another messenger later in the morning. We crossed the Hensfork River twice today. 40 miles.



Tuesday, July 6 Around noon we drove past Fort Bridger and a little farther on we met another messenger from Salt Lake. He told us that peace had been arranged and that everything was in good order. Later we passed some men and a wagon. 36 miles.



Wednesday, July 7 We met and passed several wagons. We’ve gone about half-way through the mountains. We drove as quickly as possible because of overhanging banks. 35 miles.



Thursday, July 8 We met several brethren and others. We drove around through much water. There were steep cliffs, expecially on one side, but the brethren had built guardrails there. 33 miles.



Friday, July 9 We had very steep cliffs to contend with, but we drove all the way into Salt Lake City because there was no grass for our animals. We arrived about midnight and spent our first night camped in the street. 30 miles.

Tuesday june 1 we left Florents [Florence] and started to cross the plains. Some waggons came later on so at last we were a company of 13 waggons, 33 brethern, 46 horses and mules. Several times we had to cross the river.



June 6 we met some brethern who came express from Utah. They told us from B. Young that we had to be careful, because soldiers, indians and mountaineers were inimical to us. Same day we arrived in Genua [Genoa] River Settlement which is established by Mormons. Here I found my brother-in-law Thuesen and we were so Happy, from him I got a gun with powder and 12 bullets,



June 7 I left and crossed Platte River which is really wide, we got over in a barge and the horses swam.



June 8 we travelled till the afternoon then we gathered together and we decided that Eldrige [Horace S. Eldredge] is our captain, [Hector C.] Haight assistent, I. W. Iversen Guard and G. as clerc.



June 11 we came to a wide River, there was no bridge so we had to swim and that was a hard job. We met some indians who was friendly and we gave them some food. We met some federal provisiontrain on our way.



June 19 we shot an antilope and we got some meat. When we arrived at the campground we found 2 wheels from a hand-cart. They came at the right moment because we had no firewood.



Sunday june 20 we rested for 6 hours and we had a meeting. Andersen [Jansen]was sick so Poulsen had to help Hoier [Hoyer] and I was the cook



june 22 we came to Fort Larami[e], the road was hilly and sandy,



june 26 we came to a bridge over River Platte. We sold some meat and bisquits and got 2 buffaloskin for $4 each and 4 bread. 2 waggons went forward and we came to Sweet Water. June 30 we saw the mountains with snow, the road was good and we went about 40 miles a day.



July 2 we reached the highest point of America. Several times we went on till 11-12 in the night and started again at 2-3 am.



July 3 we crossed Sandy River



july 4 we came to Big River, where we met 13 waggons (apostats) among them was rope—maker Andersen from Norway, we stayed overnight near Green River which we crossed by boat, each crossing cost $6.



July 5 we came to Fort Hamis near River Motte where we saw the first soldiers[.] we passed the bridge which the soldiers made. We started in the morning at 3



july 6 we came to Fort Bri[d]ger (about 600 soldiers) it is a beautiful place with bare plains, we met some who brought news from Utah



july 7 we crossed some high mountains where it was difficult to travel, we saw beautiful valleys where the road is good



july 8 we met 20-30 brethern who went to Bri[d]ger for goods. The old brother Madsen was buried here. We saw 50 mules from Zion.



July 9 the route was hard because we had to cross the high mountains from where we could see Salt Lake. We went down the longest hill we have ever seen, we had to cross several little rivers and in the evening we arrived to Salt Lake.

. . . a company was organized and then a second one, and in the month of april 1858, I settled up my acounts, and prepared to leave for home[.] I purchased myself a horse two buggey harnesses, a new double gun, a colts revolver, a sword, and a bowe knife, two poinards for my Wives, and every thing that was needed for the trip, I took Passage on board the steam boat Florilda in company with Jacob Gibson, &amp; Thomas Chamberlain, we shipped our horses on board the boat and arived at Florence Nebraska teritory in eleven days[.] we Continued there fiting out and waiting for Hector C, Height [Haight] and Company who ware fiting out in the upper country, thay arived however within two weaks, when we united, and are now readey to make our exit, on the first day of June,all things being acomplished preparitory for the start we make the best of our way toGenoa, over the new Milateny road we incountered heavey storms of raine acompanied by lightening and heavey thunder, the creeks become swolen and traveling become disagreable, however we made genoa all right within six days; when after resting a day the rear part of our company came up[.] we now proceeded to cross the north fork of the Platt[e] river, we caused our horses to swim the stream, thay came out all right on the opasite shore; we now ferreyed our waggons across on a small boat built for that purpose, when all ware landed safely on the bank of the stream our horses ware feeding, hapily we here met a company of mormon boys from Salt Lake City, escorting Col, Kane to the front[i]er[.] he had been to Utah on offical buisness relative to the troubles now pending, he was seated on an amount of luggage when a group of returning mishonaries gathered around him all ancious to learn something of interest from home and friends, I, stood in suspence for a while when no one took the liberty to introduce themselves for conversation for we ware all straingers to that worthy Janteelman, and knowing as I, did the great anciety that pervaded the hearts of all present as well as my own, I readily spoke out, saying [-], Colonol, we are a company of returning mishonaries from various parts of the earth, our families are in utah, and any information that you can give us relative to the conditions of things there will be thankfully received,” when all suddenly brightened up, and the Colonol replyed oh, are you ready; <s>when</s> one saide I <ham> [am] from the cape of good hope[.] another saide I ham [am] from England, when another saide he was come direct from Edinburrow [Edinburgh] Scotland[.] well saide the Colonol, you are a wonderfull people truly, and he Proceeded at once to narate to us the Condition of things in our dear mountan home, that our familyies would be taken care of, under the wise and Juditious care of President Brigham Young saide he, ‘your people never need fear, as long as he lives,’ he will direct you aright by his wise council, he saide the move southward was a political movement, but didnot define the design, which afterwards we all thuraly understood, but not until we had reached home, all was then made apparant, and so we thanked our noble friend for his kind information[.] he shook hands cordialy with us and bade us good bye, that day we ware fully organized numbering 13 waggons drawn by horses and mules and 40 men all in good health and spirits, and designing to make a quick trip of it we pushed ahead quite lively, when on the 26th we arived oppasite deer creek, where we stayed a short time and gained some information from an indian trader at the mail station, while tradeing for some bufalo skins, it was here saide that a peece was efected but we regarded this as rumour and unrelyable, we again pushed ahead lively for manny miles when we came up to some Indian encampments and shortly afterwards a party of Indian hunters came down upon us, from the hills north of us[.] thay ware by no means hostile but desired us to manifest our friendship towards them by makeing them a few presents such as we had of biskits [biscuits,] shuggar [sugar,] coffee &amp;c and place them upon a blanket that the chief had spread down in the roade before the leadeing team[.] of course we understood all theese opperations and what it ment and we treated them to what we could spare, which thay devided equaly among them[.] the blanket was then taken up by his honour the Chief and our traine alowed to proceed over the road and threw their hunting grounds, with a shake of the hand as each team passed the Chief and a good a bye; wich we ware all thankful to [h]ear, in our daily travels on the north side of the platt[e] river we could see the Government traines hawling supplies for the troops that had gone ahead to murder our brethern and Sisters our Wives and children, oh, dreadful thought to Contemplate, upon how long will a Just god withhold his vengance on such a cursed Jentile [Gentile] race, as this my heart sickens while I think of the fearful condition of things, but on ariveing at Fourt [Fort] Bridger we learned that the dificuty was settled; and we soon met the peece commishoners Comeing down to Bridger in ambulances, this aforded us great releif of mind, we have 1,10 miles more to make Salt L. City and our animals are much faded, we shall now drive more moderate, as the blow to be struck is stayed, thank god for all his goodness, and his protecting care over his honest and much abused people,” we arive at home S,L, City Sunday July 11th 1858, I, found my house deserted, the windows ware boarded up, and my house incumpassed about with wheeds; and whild sunflowers </ham>

Saturday 25th Crossed the river to Florence to make preparation for starting Monday[.] found the Brethren making active preparation for starting



Sun 30th rained this forenoon[.] Staid at Bro Binneys to Supper[.] slept in camp house[.] this afternoon out at Bro Davenports &amp; staid there over night



Mon 31st active preparations for starting[.] one team got ready &amp; started out ahead



Tues June 1st to day Bro Clark rushed me to go to Crescent to get a horse for him[.] I went but the horse was not purchased so I came back &amp; staid at the Kinneys[.] had the ague on the way[.] found the camp had all left &amp; gone out a few miles



Wed 2nd after breakfast I went to br pypers store &amp; found the company now left a bundle[.] a James pyper came with me to the first division of the camp when we soon after started &amp; soon came up unto the second division &amp; all together made 14 miles &amp; camped on the Horn river[.] a very heavy rain made bad road



Thurs 3d last night another heavy rain[.] soon after starting we overtook three more of our wagons &amp; after traveling 20 miles camped



Frid 4th after breakfast started &amp; came about 12 miles &amp; nooned on the Platte[.] came on &amp; crossed Shell creek &amp; afterwards found a great deal of water to go through from the overflowing of Shell Creek[.] camped on a slough no timber[.] made 25 m[iles]



Sat 5th started in good season[.] crossed a slough[.] soon after very deep water came nearly over the wagon bed &amp; just at noon crossed another about as bad[.] nooned &amp; dried our things then came on &amp; camped on Loup Fork[.] made 18 miles[.] some returned teamsters from camp Scott passed us to day &amp; some others came to camp this evening who gave us to understand their minds were that we could hardly get to Salt lake[.] they gave exagerated accounts of the number of troops placing them double the number they actually were



Sun 6th came on in the morning &amp; near noon met Col. Kane with an escort of Mountain boys who brought the correct news from the Valley[.] Governor Cumming had gone in &amp; seemed disposed to do justice[.] Col Kane was leaving dispatched to Washington[.] we all nooned together[.] Bro [Hector C.] Haight read a letter from President Brigham Young &amp; after dinner we came on to [.eno.] attended meeting just at night



Mon 7th got sister Hough to bake some bread for us[.] we spent the day in crossing Loup fork[.] Just got over &amp; camped near the river for night



Tues 8th got a late start[.] drove on about 20 miles &amp; camped on the prairie[.] organized by chosing H.S. Eldredge Captain[,] H.C. Haight Chaplain &amp; J. W. Young Sergeant of the Guard[.] prayer [......] &lt;to night&gt;



Wed 9th this morning started at half past 4[.] drove 3 or 4 miles &amp; stopped for breakfast then came on about 10 m &amp; stopped for dinner[.] a damp lousy day &amp; the roads heavy making it hard for the teams[.] crossed a number of sloughs with water in, one of them near ¼ mile in width then came on about 19 miles farther &amp; camped near night without water



Thurs 10th started early &amp; traveled about 12 miles &amp; stopped for breakfast by [a..] all slough then came on about 6 miles farther &amp; stopped for noon after crossing Prairie creek[.] after dinner came on [....] 10 m &amp; camped on Prairie Creek over night



Fri 11th came on about 12 miles to Wood river &amp; in about 3 hours built a bridge &amp; crossed then came about 12 or 14 miles farther &amp; camped on the open prairie in sight of the Platte nearly opposite fort Kearny



Sat 12th Came on 13 M &amp; nooned on Elm creek &amp; soon after starting Bro John Gleasons team ran away &amp; came near starting the whole train[.] they ran about three miles &amp; hindered us about two hours then we came about twelve m farther &amp; camped on Buffalo Creek



Sun 13th traveled 15 miles &amp; nooned on buffalo Creek after crossing &amp; this afternoon saw a train on the South side of platte[.] came about 12 m[.] got supper then went 8 m farther &amp; camped on the prairie[.] feed poor



Mon 14th Most of the day was hard traveling[.] roads sandy[.] traveled 25 miles[.] camped at a large clear spring of cold water



Tues 15th started in good season &amp; after traveling about 5 miles we saw some Indians coming towards us from the bluffs &amp; soon after we came to their camp[.] these were about 30 of them[.] we gave them something to eat with which they seemed well pleased &amp; then we left them &amp; came on &amp; nooned on the platte[.] this afternoon we drove till about 4[,] got supper &amp; fed &amp; drove on till after dark &amp; camped on the platt[e] having made 21 &amp; crossed a number of tall sloughs &amp; one creek[.] very warm day



Wed 16th crossed some sandy bluffs &amp; some low marshy ground[.] hard road all day[.] passed quite a number of Indians[.] some of the horses got skared[.] camped on rattlesnake creek



Thurs 17thCame on 31 miles &amp; camped on Watch creek 3 miles above Ash hollow[.] passed some very sandy road



Frid 18th came on 34 miles &amp; camped near Ancient bluff ruins[.] passed 20 lodging indians



Sat 19th Started early[.] passed the ruins[.] had some Sandy road[.] came on 30 miles &amp; camped a few miles below chimney rock[.] saw one or two trains going down over the platte



Sund 20th started &amp; came 10 or 12 M &amp; stopped to let the horses rest[.] had a meeting[.] very warm[.] there came up a hevy storm just as we were getting readyto start but it passed over without any injury to us[.] after we had started it turned &amp; came back &amp; gave us some rain which did not last long &amp; we continued &amp; camped near scotts bluffs



Mon 21st came on about 10 miles &amp; moved then came nearly as much further &amp; got supper <s>camped</s> near the river when there was plenty of wood to cook with[.] saw 4 or 5 trains going down on the other side of the river[.] also a few Indian were in Sight on the other side[.] we then came on till after 11 o clock &amp; had to camp without water &amp; very little grass



Tues 22nd got up our trains early &amp; came on about 5 miles &amp; camped near the river &amp; found wood water &amp; grass[.] some Indians came to us while we were eating breakfast who were camped on ahead[.] after breakfast we came on and passed them &amp; came on &amp; nooned[.] About 7 M below fort Laramye [Laramie.] passed it came on 10 or 1l M &amp; camped in the Black Hills



Wed 23rd started this morning &amp; came on 11 or [12] M &amp; nooned on the platt[e.] soon after starting I saw 2 Elk but they got away from us[.] we came on about 12 m &amp; stopped for supper at cottonwood springs then drove on about 9 m &amp; camped at 11 o clock on the open prairie without water[.] teams quite tired



Thurs 24 started soon after 4 o clock &amp; drove on 9 miles &amp; got breakfast near a creek with little water[.] after leaving there we came to the river in 1 mile &amp; supposed we would strike it again soon but drove on near 25 m before we came to it[.] horses quite tired &amp; very thirsty[.] we found good feed &amp; let them rest til 5 or 6 o clock[.] then came on about 5 miles &amp; camped in good season on the river



Frid 25 came on about 2 m &amp; came to the river then some six or seven in our rough mountainous country &amp; came to the river &amp; nooned[.] had a very good road for a no. of ms[.] took supper near the river today[.] came over some very sandy road &amp; camped



Sat 26th after driving 6 or 8 m we came to a mail station at the mouth of Deer creek &amp; the company stopped &amp; traded some with the traders[.] we then came on &amp; had some very sandy road till supper after which we had quite a good road till we camped for the night[.] the road keeps near the river all the way along here



Sun 27th came on 9 m to Platt[e] bridge[.] stopped &amp; traded a little then came to the upper ford 3 m &amp; nooned[.] then some 16 m to Mineral springs &amp; camped



Mon 28th after breakfast we came on 13 miles &amp; nooned near Willow spring[.] there were some mountaineers in camp[.] after dinner we came 15 m to Greasewood creek &amp; took supper here and met two families from the valley Beaubrer &amp; Hoops[.] we then came 10 or 11 m &amp; camped on Sweet water river A M near Independence rock



Tues 29th came on past devils gate &amp; nooned on sweet water then took supper about 10 M farther then drove 10 m further &amp; camped on sweet water[.] feed poor[.] passed a train of goods going up



Wed 30th started &amp; soon passed some California emigrants[.] came on to two crossings of the sweet water[.] came on [.] m further &amp; took supper[.] we took [- - - -] came on 12 miles further &amp; camped without water [.] poor feed



Thurs July 1st started at half past 9[.] came on 3 or 4 miles[.] found some water then moved on some 6 or 7 m farther &amp; camped for breakfast on Muddy Creek[.] came on 10 m farther &amp; got dinner then 10 m farther came to sweetwater[.] there Sidney &amp; I stopped on the bench[.] had a storm during the night



Frid 2nd came on 14 m &amp; stopped for dinner on the sweet water within 2 m of south pass[.] came on over only [10] m [.] stoped for supper without water[.] cam 10 m farther[.] stopped at 12 o clock[.] plenty of water[.] poor feed



Sat 3d came on 10 m &amp; nooned on little sandy creek[.] then came on 13 m further &amp; camped on Big Sandy Creek



Sun 4th came on 10 m &amp; nooned on Big Sandy[.] Joined a company of apostates from the Valley. then came on to [-] tobrt[.] camped for 2 hours[.] got supper then ferried over and cam on 2 m &amp; camped on the bench where there was good feed



Mon 5th started about half past 2 o clock[.] came on 12 m to Blacks fork &amp; stopped for breakfast &amp; then [- - - - - - - - -] &amp; nooned [- - -] then camped [- - -] on the muddy[.] poor feed



Tues 6th Started at ½ past 7 o clock and came on about 10 m and stopped for breakfast [- -] then came 13 m farther to fort Bridger [- - - -] then came 2 m and stopped at [- - - - - -] before the camp[.] started [- - - -] to leave us behind &amp; they go on ahead into the valley and make the best of our way in so we staid over night



Wed 7th came on 4 m &amp; nooned at [. . . . . . . . .] came on 7 m farther &amp; camped at [- - - - -] a couple [- - -] [. . . . . . . gir.] soldiers staid &lt;in&gt; with



Thur 8th came on 7 m to Bear river[.] baided [bated] a short time then came on 5 m farther &amp; nooned[.] then came 11 m farther to Cache care at the head of echo Kanyon [Canyon] &amp; camped[.] met quite a number of teams going out on the road of [...] goods for Livingston &amp; Kincaid.



Frid 9 th this morning while we were eating breakfast a larg number of [- - - - - - -] after which we hitched up &amp; came on 15 m down Echo Kanyon [Canyon] &amp; nooned[.] then came &amp; crossed over Weber river &amp; camped for the night[.] good feed for horses



Sat 10th came on 12 m &amp; nooned on E[ast] Kanyon [Canyon] creek[.] then came on &amp; camped for the night at West foot of Big Mountain[.] hudsons horses were so tired we did not get in till 12 o clock



Sun 11th Started in the morning and drove 14 m and arrived in GSL City having been absent about 2 years &amp; 5 months &amp; traveled near 10,000 miles
