Hyrum Lorenzo Sterling
Evidence from census and genealogical records proves that Hyrum and his aunt, Catherine Cole Sterling traveled to Utah between 1851 and 1856. Hyrum, was born in Canada in June 1850. The first documentation to place them in Utah is the birth of his sister, Elizabeth Catherine Hawkes, 19 September 1857 in Spanish Fork, Utah. It is likely that his mother married Joseph Bryant Hawkes in Utah in 1855, but that information has not been confirmed. He came to Utah in 1851. Further research is needed to determine the year Hyrum and Catherine came to Utah and the name of the company they traveled with.
Hyrum's surname is listed as "Hawkes" on the 1860 Utah census.
