Jacob George Bigler (1813 - 1907) Profile

Jacob George Bigler

Although Bigler states in his autobiography that he came to Utah in Gardner's company, Davis Clark states in his autobiography that Bigler was a counselor (with Lorenzo Johnson) in William West Lane's company in 1852. Pioneers and Prominent Men states that Bigler was in the Lane-Johnson company. The evidence is accumulating that the Bigler family may have been in the Lane company, but further research in primary sources is necessary before we can be certain (given Bigler's assertion late in life that he crossed the plains in Gardner's company).

In 1863, at the end of a mission to Europe, he traveled home with the Peter Nebeker Company in 1863, as indicated in Peter Nebeker's letter on 25 August 1863.
