Jacob traveled with his parents, William and Sarah Butler and his brother, John.

Palmyra Ward record indicates that he was born in Iowa on 15 April 1852. First documentation to put the family in Utah is his parents' rebaptism in the Palmyra Ward on 27 March 1853. Further research is needed to identify the name of the company they traveled with.
