"My father emagrated to America in the year 1856 crossing the seas in the ship of Caravan in Feruauary 14, 1856[.] We arrived at New York March 29, 1856. we was on water six weeks and my Grandfather came with us and died when we got to New York. Then we come to Iowas camping ground where I seen the morman emagrates start for Utah with the hand cart company[.] my father would not come with them and stayed in Iowa six years and got a yoak of Oxen and wagon and cows. Then we started for Utah in the year 1862. we got into Salt Lake City September." (Margaret Fisher Short)
