James Hobley
James and his mother, Elizabeth, arrived in New York on 19 June 1861 via the ship Monarch of the Sea.They are first seen in the Valley on 7 November 1861 at the time of a rebaptism in the Sugarhouse Ward. Birthdates are confirmed at the time of this ordination as well. Further research is needed to identify the name of the overland company they traveled with.
The Sugarhouse record has two separate entries for James' baptism/rebaptism. One gives the birth date listed, the other gives a birth date of 1 January 1851. The 1853 date coincides with ship and census records.
