Jane Horby
Jane and her son James emigrated to the United States in 1849. They sailed on the ship Zetland.
Evidence from census and church ordinance records proves that James and his mother traveled to Utah either in 1852 or 1853. In the 1852 Iowa census Jane appears in Pottawattamie County with one male in he household. The first documentation to place Jane and James in Utah is James' re-baptism on 10 July 1853. At the time of the 1856 Utah Territorial census both Jane and James were living in the Salt Lake 12th Ward. Jane married Levi Savage, 6 July 1856 as a plural wife, so both she and James appear in the 1860 Utah census under the surname "Savage." Jane was a school teacher and spent the remainder of her life in Salt Lake City.
Further research is needed to determine the exact year they came to Utah and the name of the company with which they crossed the plains.
