Janet Syme

John, Barbara, William, and James (Jennette’s parents, and older siblings) came to the United States in 1850 from Scotland. Older brother George is born in Missouri in 1852.  Jennette is born in Illinois, 1860 census records show they are still living in Illinois.  Census records show the entire family living in Utah by 1870.  There are records placing, at the least, Barbara in Utah by 1861 because brother Richard was born in Utah in December of that year.  Further research is needed to determine whether the family came out together or separately.

Census records have their last name recorded as "Simms".
