Johanna Jonson

Birth Date
On 1836 June 23 (Born)
Death Date
On 1901 August 2 (Died)
Gender
Female

She came with Jon. Their names are listed as "Yens and Johannes Yonson" on the Deseret News roster.

She married Jon on the ship William Tapscott. She appears on the ship roster as "Johanna Nilson." Other sources list her name as "Nielson," "Nilsson," and "Nilson." Her Family Search profile displays her surname as "Olausdotter," however, there are no sources to show that she ever used that last name. Even her Christening record does not include a last name. It simply states "Johanna." Her father is listed on the Christening records as "Olaus Nilsson" and her mother is a listed as "Elna Olsdotter." Sometimes she appears on records as "Hannah," "Louise," "Louisa," and "Louie."

Her married name often appears as "Yonson" (which reflects the Swedish pronunciation of the name), "Jonsen," and "Johnson." The last spelling, "Johnson," appears to be a more recent Americanized spelling of the last name. Evidence has not been produced that shows that they personally used that spelling. The use of "Johnson" appears on records created by native English speakers produced later in and after Jon's and Johanna's lifetime.
