John Edward Merritt
John Edward emigrated to the United States with his father and mother in 1855. They sailed on the ship Chimborazo. They made their way to St. Louis and remained there for a few years. Mary Ann's husband and an infant son, who had been born in St. Louis, passed away due to illness.
Evidence from emigration and genealogical records proves that Mary Ann and her son John Edward Merritt traveled to Utah sometime between 1858 and 1860. Mary Ann remarried in Utah in June 1861, which was prior to the arrival of that season's emigration. Further research is needed to determine the year they came to Utah and the name of the company they traveled with.
A Family Search memory suggests they traveled with the Edward Stevenson Company (1859). More research is required to determine whether this is correct.
