John Evans (1829 - 1920) Profile

John Evans

The Evans family sailed to America in 1854 on the ship Clara Wheeler. A son, Moroni, was on the ship with them, but died in 1855.

In his reminiscence, he indicates that they arrived in the Valley on 8 September 1861. This is the same day that the Peter Ranck company entered the Valley. However, he also mentions traveling with James and Reuben Miller, who were with a freight train that year, and another individual identified as the "president" of the company by the name of Horne or Henry. (Possibly the 1861 Joseph Horne Company?) Clearly further research is needed to identify the name of the company with which he and his family traveled.
