John and his family crossed the Atlantic on the ship Ellen in 1851. He is probably the J. Flint of Davis County, in the records of the Utah Territorial Militia in 1852 & 1853. In the 1852 Bishop's Report he was in Kay''s Ward {modern Kaysville.) At the time of the 1856 Utah census he was in North Davis County.
