John George Pinder

Birth Date
On 1820 March 5
Death Date
Circa 1880
Gender
Male

Alt name: Pindar

Initially the Pinder family sailed on the Charles Buck and traveled from Liverpool on 17 Jan 1855, and arrived in New Orleans on 14 March. Only John George and his daughter Elizabeth were found on the ship registers.

Church financial records indicate that they traveled to the Salt Lake Valley in 1855.  Elizabeth shows up on overland company records for the 1855 Ballantyne Company, but John does not. It is uncertain if his name was left off in error or if he hired out with another company to help pay his passage.

Thomas Bullock’s journal records the dealings of the John W. Berry Company that John traveled with at the end of a mission to England in 1858.  It indicated that prior to leaving on his mission he had settled in Ogden. In 1860, Elizabeth was living in Salt Lake, Utah, with the Finlayson family and is listed as a “domestic” on the census.  It is possible that her father was away serving a mission at this time, but that has not been verified in any records yet.

It isn’t known if the Pinders had any other family, and if they traveled to the Salt Lake Valley or not.  Further research is needed to determine those details.

Sometimes their surname is spelled "Pindar."
