John Henry Latey

John left Florence on 3 September 1856 with George Grant company in the company of other immigration agents. After a couple of days, the Grant Company overtook the Hodgett and Hunt companies and as John had a brother in both the Hunt Company and the Hodgett Company, it appears he joined and traveled with both companies for the duration of the journey. On October 19th he is documented by the Bond family as being with the Hodgett Company.

He was among the small group of men who remained behind at Devil's Gate until spring to guard the personal belongings of the emigrants who had been rescued.
