John Price Clifford

John's grandfather, Elias Clifford, was raised by a stepfather named "Wriston" and as a result Elias adopted this surname.  John, a grandson of Elias, enlisted in the Mormon Battalion under the name Wriston and came to Utah as a member of a Mormon Battalion sick detachment.  He is John P. Wriston in the 1850 Utah census.  He received a Patriarchal Blessing at Salt Lake City as John P. Wriston and this is how he appears in the 1852 Bishop's Report; but in the 1856 Utah census he is John P. Clifford.  In the Book of the Pioneers he is again John P. Wriston; but he is John Clifford in the Eastern Idaho Death records and on the Find A Grave website.

It is possible that he returned East in 1847 with his brother Isaac. However, more research is needed to confirm this possibility.
