John Redmond Conyngham
Evidence from census and genealogical records prove that John came to Utah between 1862 and 1865. He appears on the 1860 Pennsylvania census and joined the Army in Pennsylvania in 1861. The first documentation to place him in Utah is his marriage in September 1864. Further research is needed to determine the year he came to Utah and the name of the company he traveled with.
While serving in the Civil War, a comrad, Paul Lechtenberg, was killed. John assumed his identity for a time, but his name appears as John R. Conyngham on his gravestone.
