John and his family crossed the Atlantic on the ship Swanton in 1843.  At Liverpool, England, the point of embarkation, the family consisted of John (age 27), Harriet (age 28), Alice (age 3), Thomas (age 2) and Margaret (infant).  At New Orleans, the point of debarkation, only John, Harriet and Alice appear on the list of arriving passengers.  In the 1850 U. S. census the  John "Wadle" household consisted of John, Harriet, "Allis" (age 12), Matilda (age 3) and Frances (infant).  They lived in Holt County, Missouri.  On 2 December John Purchased land in Salt Lake City from a George Wardle.  At the time of the 1856 Utah Territorial census John and Harriet were in Paragoona, Iron County, Utah.  John married Miss Emeline Baker at Salt Lake City in 1856.  He died in Yamhill County, Oregon.
