John Weinal

John Was from Germany. He married Alice Daniels at Quincy Illinois in 1842. They crossed the plains to the Salt Lake Valley with an orphan girl named Ellen in 1848. John was re-baptized on 26 November 1848. His name first appears in the records of the Utah Territorial Militia in May 1849 at Salt Lake City. Brigham Young sent John, who was a miller, to Kaysville to establish a "flouring mill" and on 20 July 1854 the Deseret News carried a notice that the mill was now in operation but at the time of the 1856 Utah Territorial census John john appears with his two wives--Alice and Eleanor (Ellen)--in Salt Lake City. He was a president of the 31st Quorum of Seventy. His surname is spelled various ways in contemporary documents: Weinal, Wienel, Winal, Wynel, Wynall.

The years of his birth and death are confirmed by the inscription on his gravestone which shows his name as "John Weinel."
