Joseph James
James arrived in New Orleans on 18 March 1854 via the ship Golconda. The PEF collection places him in Utah by October of that same year. He married Sarah Holyoak days after arriving in Utah. The Holyoak family traveled in the 1854 Darwin Richardson Company. Though there is no official roster for that company, the evidence strongly suggests they met on the journey, which is why he is placed in this company as well.
Jury was the surname of his father, but since he was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents, later in life he took on his mother's maiden name of James.
