Mahala Heaston

The Heaston family arrived in Utah in either 1861 or 1862. Mahala is seen in her father's household in Iowa at the time of the 1860 census. She likely traveled with her brother, John and his wife, Maria. They had a son in Salt Lake City in March of 1863 and family records indicate Maria and her husband, John, were married in Iowa April of 1862, which would indicate they traveled that same year. However, further research is needed to confirm that.

Birth date confirmed by West Jordan Ward records at the time of a baptism on 25 February 1864. Mahala's name is listed next to that of her brother and sister-in-law, indicating that she likely made the trip with them. She died under the married name of Hogan.
