Margaret Young was born 24 April 1837 in Westport, Fairfield, Connecticut, United States to Ebenezer Russell Young II and his wife, Margaret Holden. Margaret was the oldest of eight children. According to family records, Margaret Young’s parents joined the church when she was three years old and became leaders in Connecticut. Apostle John Taylor was presiding over the New York Conference for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and visited the Young family often. 

Margaret married John Taylor for eternity on 27 September 1856. Margaret came to Utah, with the Charles McCarty/William Appleby Company. Family history records show that she went back to Florence, Nebraska to meet her family who were on their westward trek, and came back to Utah with the Appleby & Young Company arriving in Salt Lake City on October 1858. This was the last company to leave Nebraska for the Salt Lake Valley before winter set in.

Upon her arrival in the Valley, she lived for a time with Leonora Cannon Taylor, President Taylor’s first wife. She held a private school where she taught all the Taylor children as well as a few neighborhood children. Margaret and John Taylor became the parents of nine children, one died in childhood.

Margaret later served in the presidency of the church’s young women’s organization. She lived in Salt Lake City Ward 1, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States in 1910. In 1880, at the age of 43, her occupation is listed as keeping house in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. She died on 3 May 1919, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 82, and was buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.
