Evidence from census and genealogical records proves that the Newell family traveled to Utah by 1849. Harriet married in Salt Lake City 1 May 1850, which was prior to the arrival of that season's emigration. They also appear on the 1850 Utah Census, which was taken in the Spring of 1851. Further research is needed to confirm the year they came to Utah and the name of the company they traveled with.
Belinda's son, Lewis Laertes Newell, came to Utah with the 1849 George A. Smith/Dan Jones Company, but their names do not appear on the roster with him.
