Marie Louise Lance
Marie was born in Quebec, Canada. She is the mother of Nancy, Sophia and Mary Lance. Marie's first husband (Samuel Lance) died before 3 June 1849, the day Marie married William Draper Sr. at Kanesville, Pottawattamie County, Iowa. She appears as Mary Draper in the 1850 federal census of Pottawattamie County. In the 1856 Utah census she is probably one of the two women named Mary Lance living at Lake City (modern American Fork), Utah County, Utah. Her daughter Mary may be the other one. In the 1860 Utah census Marie is Mary Lance, age 65, living at Pondtown (modern Salem, Utah County, Utah). In the 1870 Utah census she is again living in American Fork; this is where she is buried under the surname "Lance." Further research is needed to identify the name of the pioneer company with which she crossed the plains.
