Martha Lydia Babbitt
Evidence from census and genealogical records proves that Martha traveled to Utah in 1851 or 1852. She appears on the 1850 Iowa census as "Martha Lydia Babbit." The first documentation to place her in Utah is her marriage 22 Feb. 1853, which was prior to the arrival of that season's emigration. Further research is needed to determine the year she came to Utah and the name of the company she traveled with. Her name is listed as "Martha A. Babbitt" in the Deseret News record of her marriage. Her birth date is confirmed by Salt Lake Seventeenth Ward record of members at the time of a rebaptism on 1 February 1855.
